Things took a dramatic turn for Pushpika De Silva, the winner of Ms. Sri Lanka’s beauty pageant, after former incumbent and Mrs. World 2020, Caroline Jurie, snatched her crown.
According to CNN, Jurie falsely claimed that De Silva was divorced and therefore unable to participate in the pageant.
“I have a small request,” Jurie told CNN. “As for Mrs. World Inc., there is a rule that you should get married and not get divorced. So I’m taking my first step by saying the crown goes to the first runner-up. ”
Jurie then proceeded to forcefully remove the crown from De Silva’s head and place it on the first runner-up, CNN reports.
Organizers later declared De Silva the official winner of the pageant, saying in a statement that contestants who were “legally married” could compete.
