NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – The metropolitan transport authority stopped overnight during the crossroads as the flood waters receded.
First responders had to rescue passengers on buses and trains.

As of 12:30 a.m. Thursday, CBS2 learned there were six subway evacuations stuck between stations.

Passengers at 28th Street Station could not believe their eyes as an avalanche of water entered.
On Staten Island, an MTA bus had to stop after submerging in water up to its waist. Firefighters drove passengers and the driver to higher ground in a nearby building.

The driver of another bus managed to navigate the flooded roads and get to safety. Passengers stopped over the seats as the water covered the ground.

In an overnight statement, MTA Acting President Janno Lieber said in part, “New Yorkers should not try to travel until further notice. We will deploy the maximum capacity of the pump and increase the number of workers in the system when it is safe so that, as this epic storm decreases the service, it can be restored as soon as possible. “
Subway and bus service remains limited, but for those who have to travel, the MTA suggests taking the bus.
