National bowling team member Andraunick “Andro” Simounet Ardin lost the battle against colon cancer on Sunday at his residence in the state of Florida, in the United States.
He was 36 years old.
Simounet – multiple gold medalist – has been fighting against this disease since 2017, which did not stop him at the 2018 Central American and Caribbean Games in Barranquilla, where he won gold per team.
The young athlete represented the island in Mayagüez 2010, where he won three medals, two gold (masters event and three) and one bronze (team).
Simounet – son of photojournalist Andy and Lucy Ardin also won a gold medal in a Pan American championship and formed the Puerto Rican squad that finished fourth at the 2013 Bowling World Cup.
“The family of bowling in Puerto Rico and the Federation of Bowling of Puerto Rico regret the earthly departure of the multiple gold medalist in Mayagüez 2010 and Barranquilla 2018, Andro Simounet. However, he leaves us forever his joy, his strength, courage and enormous patriotic pride in representing Puerto Rico. Andro will always be with his #EquipoPUR, “the Puerto Rico Bowling Federation reacted on its Facebook account.
Simounet’s body will be burned.
