MUMBAI: A man accused of raping a 30-year-old woman in Saki Naka, Bombay, was arrested by local police on Friday.
The woman was found unconscious on Khairani Road in Saki Naka on Thursday night, police said.
The police control room received the call early Friday that a man was beating a woman on Khairani Road. A police team rushed to the scene to find a woman lying in a pool of blood.
Meanwhile, police officers located the assailant and captured him on Friday.
Defendant has been identified as Mohan Chouhan (45) and is currently being questioned.
According to preliminary evidence, the victim had been raped and assaulted with an iron rod on her private parts. Police said the incident took place inside a tempo parked on the side of the road. Blood stains were also found inside the vehicle.
Chouhan has been registered under various sections of the Penal Code of India, including 307 (attempted murder), 376 (rape), 323 (intentional injury) and 504 intentional insult, Bombay police reported.
It is being investigated later.
