New York City is hosting a star-studded concert this weekend to celebrate the recovery of the Big Apple from the coronavirus pandemic, although the Delta variant has caused the highest number of new cases since spring.
“We Love NYC, The Homecoming Concert” is available takes place on Saturday, August 21 at Central Park’s Great Lawn and will feature renowned headliners, including Paul Simon, Bruce Springsteen and Jennifer Hudson.
Each will perform two of their songs, which means fans can expect a night of classic hits.
The concert was hosted by Brooklyn-born music mogul Clive Davis, who told the New York Daily News that the celebration will strike a balance as the city reopens despite increasing COVID cases nationwide.

The stage is set for the ‘We Love NYC, The Homecoming Concert’, which will take place on Saturday 21 August at Central Park’s Great Lawn.

Mayor Bill de Blasio said the event will go down in the city’s history books.
“It’s going to be one of the best Central Park gigs in history,” de Blasio said last month. “This is something for all ages.”
Davis said Central Park’s location for the concert was a symbolic choice.
“The history of the Great Lawn, with its historic concerts, I can’t think of a better place to do this concert,” he told the Daily News. “Music is the messenger.”
The concert comes when COVID cases have increased in New York City, with the Delta variant now accounting for 94 percent of all positive samples
NBC New York reports that the five counties that make up New York City are considered “high transmission” areas by CDC, but the transmission rate (total new cases per 100,000 people over the previous seven days) has dropped by about three percent in the last week, according to the latest update from the city health department on Friday.
The city’s most recent data show that the seven-day average diagnosis from New York to New York currently stands at 1,683, slightly below the 1,892 average recorded last week, but well above the 197 average. which was seen in July, before Delta arrived.
In total, New York has had 2.22 million confirmed cases of COVID and 53,548 deaths.
Earlier this month, de Blasio announced the “New York Key” emergency executive order aimed at combating the rise of the delta.
The order requires New Yorkers to provide vaccination tests so people can enter certain indoor establishments as of Aug. 17.
It has sparked controversy among some employers, who claim the plan is useless, discriminatory and difficult to implement.
The “back home” event will air on CNN and be available on the website and on the network application without the need to sign in.
