MVC opposes use of EEC funds for educational campaign on Special Election

The electoral commissioner of the Citizen Victory Movement (MVC), Olvin Valentí, announced today his opposition to the State Election Commission (EEC) using the operational funds of the body to support the educational campaign on the election of the intriguers of the estadidad in Washington DC, the United States.

Following an Electronic Referendum among the five Electoral Commissioners in connection with the Special Campaign Education Campaign (Law 167-2020), known as the “Law to Create the Congressional Delegation of Puerto Rico”. The President of the EEC, Francisco J. Rosado Colomer, decided that the agency’s operational funds would be used for these purposes, although the MVC, the Puerto Rican Independentist Party (PIP) and the Democratic People’s Party PPD) opposed the determination.

“This is a choice to choose delegates who will go to the polls, not in favor of a clean and open process of self-determination, but to impose the statehood in Puerto Rico without considering any of the decolonizing options that could be on the On top of that, we will use funds that are to pay to operate the agency to educate about an election that we know will ultimately not solve Puerto Rico’s status problem, ”the MVC commissioner ruled. .

Despite this, the President of the EEC categorized the positions of the MVC, PIP and the PPD as positions that have no legal basis and therefore determine that, although the agency does not have the funds to implement an educational campaign on the process, the campaign will be carried out endangering the fiscal viability of the entire agency.
