Napa County had about 2,500 new cases of COVID-19 in December. That’s four times the July total and twice the November total, Relucio said.

Federal and state health officials say COVID-19 vaccines should end the pandemic.

Napa County has about 139,000 inhabitants. Relucio told supervisors that the county has received 6,300 doses of COVID-19 vaccine and that it has administered 3,318 doses.

Vaccines are administered based on a staggered system that comes from the state and federal governments. This first ongoing phase includes acute health workers, psychiatric hospitals and specialized nursing centers, paramedics and dialysis staff.

The next two months could expand the categories to home health care and dental workers, among others. In March, vaccinations for people over the age of 75 and people in the food, agriculture, education and childcare sectors could begin.
