Narco. Ecuador has evidence that Sinaloa Cartel and CJNG have been operating in the country since 2009

Quto.- The anti-narcotics director of the police of Ecuador said Wednesday that two Mexican cartels operate on Ecuadorian soil, one of them for more than a decade.

Meanwhile, General Geovanny Espinel, commander of the Ecuadorian Air Force, said that during the first half of 2020 45 tons of drugs were confiscated and that in the same period this year the figure rose to 93 tons.

Speaking to the television network Teleamazonas, police general Geovanni Ponce said that “we have evidence that the Sinaloa Cartel has carried out operations that have been duly neutralized by the police from 2009 to 2020, (also) we have a record of the action of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel”.

“These organizations have an economic power that we do not have in the state, which makes it easier for them to use and diversify the means to enter the drug through our border provinces,” he added.

Ponce argued that in the Colombian provinces of Nariño and Putumayo, bordering Ecuador, there are about 400 tons of narcotics a year of which 40% to 50% enter Ecuadorian soil.

The main narcotics markets that reach Ecuador, a country considered for storage and export, are the United States and Europe, although in recent times it has been identified that they also go to Chile.

Espinel anticipated this week that the government will install two radars as soon as possible to neutralize unidentified low-altitude flights engaged in illegal activities.
