Former mayor of San Juan for the Victory Citizen Movement, Manuel Natal Albelo, reacted this afternoon to the announcement of Alexandra Lugaro of his resignation from Puerto Rico’s electoral policy.
Natal Albelo, said that Lugaro is the “bravest” person he knows, and that this “courage, combined with a deep love for the country, led him to completely change Puerto Rican politics in less than 6 years.”
The former representative also said that Lugaro changed the “old politics” from his independent candidacy for Governor and “inspired a new generation to actively participate in politics, especially the electoral one.”
Natal Albelo, who is also the ex-candidate’s partner, stressed that she was subjected during her years in politics “to the strictest scrutiny and sometimes the most vicious and discriminatory attacks that any politician has received in the modern history of our country “.
This decision was announced by Lugaro in an open letter through social media where he said that his intention was never to be political or aspire to a candidacy, but did so out of dissatisfaction with the reality of the island.
For her part, Natal Albelo thanked Lugaro for “not behaving, for making the path less steep for those of us who come back.”
Finally, he assured that history would do justice to the ex-candidate who has not received in the present.
