National Guard troops at Capitol sick after eating raw meat: report

National Guard soldiers defending the U.S. Capitol have gone bad after being fed almost entirely raw meat, with shaved metal that is also found in disgusting meals, according to the complainants.

An anonymous Michigan National Guard sergeant told WXYZ that the force has repeatedly complained after more than a dozen soldiers were sick with undercooked meat.

“Yesterday, for example, 74 different meals with raw meat were found,” the sergeant said at the station Monday, sharing images of meat that looked completely raw in the center.

“Just yesterday … the soldiers had found metal shavings in the food,” he said.

Poorly cooked meals that are “good from the start” were made “even more dangerous” by a delay of up to four hours before serving, he said.

Despite their key role in defending the Capitol against the dreaded national terrorist plots, the troops were also unfortunately being malnourished, the sergeant complained.

A typical breakfast was “maybe a Dane and some kind of juice,” while sometimes it was “clearly a dinner roll and SunnyD,” the sergeant said.

Another soldier complained last month that “several soldiers have become ill and vomiting after eating,” The Detroit News noted.

“Morale is very bad; many have served abroad and you can’t believe the quality of the food they eat here, ”the soldier complained.

The Michigan National Guard, which still has about 1,000 troops at the Capitol, issued a statement On Monday, calling the reports “very worrying” and “unacceptable”, he said it was the contractor involved.

“The health and well-being of members of the Michigan National Guard service is critical to their success, as they continue to serve on missions in the United States and around the world,” the statement said.

Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s office told local media that she had taken up the issue last month and had been assured that it had been resolved.

The 14 members of the Michigan House delegation signed a letter Tuesday asking the National Guard to cancel the food service contract and find another vendor.

“It is completely unacceptable for our men and women serving in Washington, DC, to be hospitalized because of the food they are provided with,” lawmakers wrote.

Michigan troops make up about 20 percent of the 5,200 guard soldiers and airmen who support civilian police at the Capitol, The Detroit News noted, with its deployment ending March 12.
