Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny is suing the Russian prison where he is being held for having detained his Koran.
Navalny he said in an Instagram post who has bought two or three volumes of the Qur’an with comments, but they have not been given because prison officials take three months to review the books of extremism.
He considered it illegal to check the extremism of the Koran and is now suing Moscow prison for reading.
Navalny is serving a 2-and-a-half-year prison sentence for what are allegedly accusations by the Russian government.
Although Navalny is a Christian, he says that studying the Qur’an is part of his personal improvement and he wants to become the “Champion of the Koran among Russian non-Muslim politicians”, The Associated Press reported.
The lawsuit comes amid a decline in Navalny’s health since he went on hunger strike two weeks ago, as the prison did not allow him to see a doctor for his leg and back pain.
The prison is threatening to force feeding Navalny, if he does not end the hunger strike, but does not let him see a doctor of his choice.
Navalny begins to lose the feeling in his hands while he was recently diagnosed with spinal hernias.
Several countries have condemned Russia for imprisoning Navalny and imposed sanctions on the country for its actions.
