The latest 2K Sports annualized basketball simulator, NBA 2K22, released this week on almost every platform imaginable. Instead of talking about many fans of all the latest features that can be seen in this year’s game iteration, the conversation point associated with NBA 2K22 which has begun to dominate the conversation on social media has focused on a fairly open ad from State Farm that some players have begun to discover.
Over the last day since its release, there have been several NBA 2K22 players have begun to stumble upon a product placement in the game for a State Farm insurance. Players visit a shop window in The City, which is an open-style area NBA 2K22, which is completely dedicated to State Farm. And, although this may not seem so great, as there are other companies and brands present NBA 2K22, is the way this version of State Farm has been implemented that feels a bit out of place. Specifically, players can interact with “Jake of State Farm,” which is the company’s spokesperson often seen in ads. Jake then offers players his iconic red shirt and khaki pants, which he refers to as “dripping”, which players can equip their own player. In short, the whole interaction is not at all strange.
For the most part, NBA 2K22 has garnered criticism everywhere for baking essentially on ads like this. Unfortunately, however, ads like this have become commonplace over the years, as the NBA 2K series has continued to grow in popularity. While the franchise once focused on creating a top-notch basketball experience, 2K Sports has slowly begun to fill it with advertising opportunities like this, clearly in an effort to earn even more. money out of the ordinary. Overall, it’s a pretty dirty look.
