If you legalize marijuana, you will kill your children, “Ricketts said Wednesday.

A bill in the Legislature’s Judiciary Committee would legalize medical marijuana, but state Sen. Anna Wishart (D) said Wednesday the Senate will not have the last word, The Associated Press reported.

Wishart said those who advocate the legalization of marijuana will push for a vote if the state does not pass the legislation.

“It is dangerous to go through the established process that we have to determine whether or not drugs are safe and effective and why legalizing marijuana and going through the regulatory process to keep people safe is dangerous and will harm our children,” the governor said.

A marijuana legalization measure would begin voting last year, but the Nebraska Supreme Court dismissed it because of a rule that forbade grouping multiple issues into a single yes and no question. The measure included subjects subject to marijuana use and cultivation rights, as well as how to regulate it.

Advocates believe they have reviewed the measure so the court will accept it on the ballot, according to The Associated Press.

A growing number of states have passed legislation legalizing marijuana for medical or recreational use.

A bill was approved in February in Virginia, which will legalize recreational marijuana use in the state in 2024.
