The least fun part of a friendly Nerf battle is not hit, but you have to constantly stop to reload the blaster. The discomfort improved with Nerf Rival Line, which debuted in 2015, but by 2021 the company is introducing a new line of Hyper blasters which shoots smaller foam balls, so you’ll spend even less time reloading.
The Rival line wasn’t the first time Nerf had turned into foam balls as an ammunition alternative to darts, but the real attraction was that he could throw these little spheres (which looked like miniaturized soft golf balls) at speeds of up to 70 MPH, or about 100 feet per second. Not fast enough to leave bruises, as paintballs can do, but fast enough to actively prevent a shot during a shootout. For its new Hyper line, Nerf redesigned these foam balls with a new bouncing material that flies farther and faster, though speeding up to 110 feet per second is now not the real draw.
The small size of the Nerf Hyper ammunition means that a hopper or magazine has four times the capacity it would have with the Nerf Rival rounds. Thus, a Rival blaster with a 100-shot hopper could already contain 400 Hyper wheels, but since a new, smaller firing mechanism is required, it appears that the new Hyper balls are not compatible with the previous version.

Instead, sometime in 2021, Nerf will launch the Hyper line with three bombs to start with: the $ 30 Nerf Hyper Rush-40 with a gun design and a 40-shot hopper, the Nerf Hyper Siege-50 of $ 40 with a capacity of 50 shots. and a pump action shotgun design and the $ 70 fully automatic Nerf Hyper Mach-100 that uses D-size batteries to quickly empty the 100-shot hopper if the trigger is held down.
It is not known if Nerf will continue to be added to the Rival line once the Hyper line is available. But with better distance, faster speeds, greater capabilities, and a lower price per shot (Hyper 200-round refills will sell for less than $ 30), it’s hard to imagine fans not enthusiastically accepting the new line and say goodbye to Rival tears.
