Netflix and the creators of Outer Banks sued for “stealing” the plot of their teen drama by author KW Wooten
Independently published author KW Wooten has reportedly sued Netflix and the creators of Outer Banks for “stealing” the plot of his teen drama, which began airing on April 15th.
In 2016, Wooten released Pennywise: The Hunt for Blackbeard’s Treasure. about four young adults discover a buried treasure from a fable wreck along the outer shores of North Carolina.
“The archetypes of its protagonists and those of the show are almost identical,” the lawsuit said, according to TMZ.

And the villains too: a rich benefactor and a corrupt cop. He also says the plot is pretty much the same … including the clues they find and the places where he takes them.
K. (first name Kevin) noted that co-creators Jonas & Josh Pate said they were inspired by Outer Banks while living in Wilmington, where he had published hard copies of Pennywise.
Wooten demands that the creators (including Shannon Burke) add a title card to the opening credits that highlight him and his Goonies-style novel, and is also after damage.
Meanwhile, the cast and crew of Outer Banks have been working hard to film the second season of the mystery adventure.
