AUSTIN, Texas (AP) – New cases of COVID-19 in Texas fell sharply in total on Friday, according to the state case count.
The Texas State Department of Health Services reported 3,521 new cases on Friday, 852 fewer than the day before. The addition of 53 previously unreported cases brought the state’s total pandemic to 2,739,385.
The state also reported the lowest number of COVID-19 hospitalizations from Oct. 10 to 3,752 as of Thursday, the most recent total available. The estimate of active cases fell by 1,099 to 107,597.
Researchers at Johns Hopkins University say the 158 new deaths from COVID-19 reported Friday raised the number of deaths from the state’s pandemic to 47,193. The researchers also said the rotating average of new daily cases had dropped by nearly 3,003 cases over the past two weeks, down about 41%.
