The New Jersey man hospitalized with COVID-19 after receiving the Johnson & Johnson vaccine was put on a ventilator Friday as his condition worsened, his daughter told The Post.
Francisco Cosme, 52, who fell ill despite receiving the punch five weeks earlier, was unconscious when his daughter, Michelle Torres, saw him briefly during a call to FaceTime on Friday morning.
“It simply came to our notice then. Doctors said that right now it still depends on his body to continue, “Torres said, his voice trembling with emotion.
“He’s not conscious, we just look at him,” he said.
Torres, who has not been allowed to visit his father at the hospital because he also has COVID-19, said his family is broken by his deteriorating health.
“It’s a lot, you’re praying and wishing the best. And it took a turn for the worse, ”he said.
Cosme, a diabetic, put on a fan at 5 a.m. Friday, but the machine’s “oxygen level” “isn’t where it should be,” he said.
Cosme began feeling symptoms of the coronavirus, including cough and chills, on April 1 after receiving the Johnson & Johnson dose vaccine at the Javits Center on March 6. He was rushed to John F. Kennedy Medical Center last week, where he is still being treated.
Torres said he now wants Johnson & Johnson to do more research on the vaccine and clarifies that people may still be hospitalized with the coronavirus, even after receiving the shot.
“Research and review more [your] statement, “he said.
In another New Jersey case, Shannon Kelly, 25, of Tabernacle, told The Post she became ill with COVID-19 earlier this month after receiving the Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
Kelly said he was shot on March 11 at a CVS in Clementon and felt good at first.
“Three weeks later, I had a cold, congestion, and earache,” said Kelly, who works at a private school. “I lost the smell and the taste. I have a bad cough and shortness of breath. “
On Saturday he tested positive for COVID-19, despite being fit and healthy, he said.
“I’ve been in bed for two weeks now,” she said, adding that her cough hasn’t calmed down yet.
“[It’s] surprising. I knew Johnson & Johnson was not as effective as the other two. Even so, I am young, healthy and fit ”.
Earlier this week, a 39-year-old Brooklyn man said he fell ill with COVID-19 two weeks after receiving the Johnson & Johnson blow.
