  • Dry conditions were expected for much of the lower 48 on New Year’s Day and New Year’s Day.
  • Some rain and snow were on the tap in the northeastern, northwestern, and south-central interior of the states.

Snow and rain were expected to affect some New Year’s plans for northwestern, northeastern and southern Texas.

However, most of the 48 minors could expect generally dry conditions on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.

New Year’s Day

The first day of the new year was expected to have generally calm conditions at the bottom of 48.

Some lake-effect snowfall was expected east of the Great Lakes, and also some possible persistent snowfall in northern New England. The rest of the East was well on its way to enjoying dry conditions with temperatures close to slightly above average.

Rainfall was expected to increase from south and east Texas to west Louisiana on New Year’s Day. Temperatures were generally expected to be in the 50s or 60s there.

A dry year began in the Midwest, with above-average temperatures and highs ranging from the 1920s near the Canadian border to the 1950s in the middle of the Mississippi Valley.

Snow was expected further west in the Rocky Mountains, including Salt Lake City, with rain and mountain snow in the Pacific Northwest. The southwest was expecting a dry day with highs close to or slightly below average.
