New York City draws from the monster snowstorm; elementary students return face-to-face Wednesdays

NEW YORK CITY (WABC) – Underground ground service resumed Tuesday at 5 a.m. after a nor’easter marathon that threw more than a foot of snow into New York City.

The service was suspended Monday afternoon while crews worked to clear the snow from those elevated tracks.

Today officials predicted some delays.

New York public schools will be kept away on Tuesday after face-to-face learning was suspended on Monday. Elementary students will resume face-to-face learning on Wednesday.

Catholic elementary schools in the New York Archdiocese will remain closed on Tuesday, another “traditional snow day” without remote learning.

The secondary schools of the archdiocese operate independently, so the families of the institute must follow the instructions of their individual schools.

The city has canceled all scheduled vaccinations against COVID-19 on Monday and Tuesday, and the food distribution and child care program of the learning bridges was canceled in schools on Monday.

“The last thing we want to do is urge our elders to come out in the middle of a storm like this,” Blasio said. “Does not make sense”.

Vaccinations are expected to resume on Wednesday.

Restaurants in the city will resume outdoors starting at 3 p.m. on Tuesday.

The New York sanitation commissioner spoke Tuesday about efforts to remove the snow

The outdoor dining was suspended during the storm, and some restaurants left the heaters on to melt the snow.

Others removed the roofs from their structures, fearing they might collapse under the weight of the snow.

The city continues to rely on New Yorkers to stay off the roads as they dig.

“Give all members of the sanitation department a chance to do their job by staying out of their way,” Mayor Bill de Blasio said. “It’s overwhelming … in all five districts, New Yorkers are answering this call, staying home, staying off the street. That’s good. Keep doing it until it’s all over.”

As for MTA buses, today they operate on a reduced schedule, 75 percent of normal.

Travelers are asked to spend extra time if they have to leave.

Alternate side parking has been suspended for the rest of the week.
