The Mount Sinai system health worker has been treated and is in stable condition.
The reaction has been reported to CDC, which will likely publish a case report.
This is the only report of a serious side effect to date in New York City.
More than 30,000 vaccines against COVID-19 have been administered in New York City since Wednesday morning.
The city said in a statement: “Vaccines have side effects and allergic reactions are known to occur, although they are uncommon. We also know that according to clinical trials and reports of adverse effects in other jurisdictions, reactions such as these Pfizer vaccine has been reported.The city’s Department of Health is closely monitoring reports of more serious side effects in collaboration with CDC, and this is the first serious adverse event we have found in New York City. We will continue to advance distribution of the coronavirus vaccine to ensure that health care workers, residential staff, and residential residents are protected against COVID-19. “
On Tuesday, the city launched a campaign to increase confidence in the vaccine and worked to convince not only first-timers, but all New Yorkers, that vaccines are safe and effective.
