New York distributes a record number of vaccines against COVID-19

A daily record of more than 179,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccine has been administered across New York City, Governor Andrew Cuomo said Friday.

According to the latest data, more than 2.6 million New Yorkers have received at least one dose of vaccine, or 13.4 percent of the state’s population.

As of 1 p.m. Friday, New York health care distribution sites have administered 91 percent of the first doses delivered so far, Cuomo said.

“Nearly 180,000 vaccines in a single day are an important milestone in our ongoing efforts to ensure that eligible New Yorkers, especially those in the communities most affected by COVID, have direct access to the vaccine,” Cuomo said in a communiqué.

But the governor explained that the fight against coronavirus is not over.

“We are still in a race to keep the infection rate low and increase vaccines. Although the infection rate depends on our behavior, the vaccination rate is directly linked to supply and demand right now. of the vaccine still far exceeds our offer, ”he said.

“We will continue to work with our federal partners and an extensive vaccine distribution network to deliver doses as soon as we get them (with a focus on vulnerable and underserved communities) and receive shots in the arms as quickly and fairly as possible.”
