New York time: big winter storm to transport snow and wind to Tri-State from Sunday night

NEW YORK (WABC) – A major, long-lasting winter storm is forecast to affect the three-state area from Sunday evening until early Tuesday.

Parts of the area will collect 6 “-12” of snow from this northeast, even in New York City, and more than a foot is not out of the question.

Meanwhile, Saturday night will be clear to partly cloudy and cold as the lows sink into the teens.

Sunday will be cold with rising and thickening clouds, as highs will remain in the 1920s.

Snow will remain until Sunday evening, reaching from southwest to northeast and accumulating 1 “-3” overnight as the breeze turns.

Roads will become snowy and slippery as temperatures drop in the mid-twenties.

Monday will be cloudy and windy, with periods of snow, the most intense of which should occur during the afternoon and evening.

Sewer can sometimes mix, mostly along the coast, keeping accumulations south and east of New York City.

Wind gusts of 40 to 50 miles per hour are possible, mainly along the coast and across Long Island.

Temperatures can shift just above the freezing temperature in the city.

The storm leaves slowly on Tuesday, but will continue to be rainy and cold with persistent snow showers and showers.

Additional significant build-up is not likely to occur during Tuesday, but flakes will sometimes continue to fly.
