New York’s COVID positivity rate, hospitalizations declining

New York’s coronavirus positivity rate hit a one-month low, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced Saturday.

Of the 260,700 test results reported Friday, 7,283, or 2.79 percent, were positive, Cuomo said.

The statewide Friday rate, which was measured at an average of seven days, was 3.31 percent, slightly lower than the day before and the lowest since Dec. 2. In New York City, the rate fell to 3.69 percent from 3.88 percent the day before.

Statewide COVID-19 hospitalizations also fell to 4,241 on Friday, which Cuomo said was the lowest number since Dec. 3.

There were 57 deaths from COVID-19 statewide, including 32 among New York City residents.

A total of 11,669,171 doses of COVID-19 vaccine doses have been distributed in the state with 282,305 shots fired 24 hours a day from Friday afternoon to Saturday afternoon, Cuomo announced.

Nearly a quarter of all New Yorkers have completed their immunization series.
