Newsom Team: There is no scenario in which we lose withdrawal elections

Gov. Gavin Newsom’s team appears to have a tone of confidence just a day ahead of Tuesday’s California recall the election and said there is no “scenario in which we lose.”

“I don’t see a scenario where we’re not talking about a victory for the governor and a total rejection of this appalling partisan takeover,” Newsom strategist Sean Clegg said. “I think what we see in our projections in the first ballots is that we’re performing so well that we could get to a point where there’s not enough Republican votes left on the table for them to overtake us. We’ll let you know when we get to that.”

Newsom, who was overwhelmingly elected governor in 2018 in California, faces a withdrawal caused last year primarily by allegations of mismanaging his state’s response. the coronavirus.

Republicans see the retirement election as their best chance to bring down a politician who has never lost an election during his years as mayor of San Francisco, lieutenant governor of California and now governor, and his first chance to win a contest in the whole state since the victory of the 2006 government re-election. then governor. Arnold Schwarzenegger.

On Monday night, President Biden urged Californians to keep Newsom as their governor during a rally in Long Beach.

“The eyes of the nation are on California because the decision you make will not only have a big impact on California, but it will resonate across the nation, and frankly, it’s not a joke, all over the world,” Biden said.

The president also claimed that a “Trump clone” could replace Newsom, who was an apparent reference to conservative radio presenter Larry Elder, the Republican leader.

“You all know that last year I got to run against the real Donald Trump,” Biden said. “Well, this year the Republican leader running for governor is the closest to a Trump clone I’ve ever seen in your state.”

“Either you keep Gavin Newsom as governor or you’ll get Donald Trump,” he added. “It’s not a joke. A Republican governor is blocking the progress of COVID-19 who is also anti-woman, anti-worker, climate denier, who doesn’t believe in the election. The election should be absolutely clear.”

The withdrawal began in June 2020 due to the frustrations of many Californians about the governor’s restrictive response to the coronavirus. On Monday, Biden defended Newsom’s handling of the virus, arguing that voting “no” would protect California from “Trump Republicans trying to stop us from overcoming this pandemic.”

“We don’t need politics in this battle against Covid,” he added. “We need science. We need courage. We need leadership. We need Gavin Newsom.”
