Neymar and Paris Saint-Germain reached an agreement to extend the Brazilian’s deal with the French capital club, sources told ESPNFC. The current one expires in June 2022 and negotiations began a few months ago.
There are still some details to be resolved, but both parties are happy with a new four-year contract for the number 10 in Paris, which will link him with the French champions until 2026. PSG made the extension of Neymar a priority and the player was eager to stay longer at the Parc des Princes.
“I want to stay,” he said Sunday in an interview on French television. Leonardo, the sporting director of the PSG, the relationship with Neymar Jr and Sr. has improved a lot in the last year, he was instrumental in the negotiations and the agreement reached. Now, Leo wants to achieve the same result with Kylian Mbappé who is also out of contract in 18 months. So far, however, the French prodigy has not decided what he wanted to do, expand or leave.
Neymar, 29, on Friday is delighted to continue his career in Paris and could sign his new contract soon. Ideally, the club would like everything to be done before the first leg of the round of 16 of the Champions League against Barcelona on 15 February.
Since arriving at the Parc des Princes in August 2017 with a Barcelona record of 222 million euros, a world record, Neymar has won three Ligue 1 titles, as well as two French coupes, two cut from the League and two Champions Trophies. He also finished runners-up in the Champions League last season, losing to Bayern Munich in Lisbon (1-0).
He reached the 100-match mark for the club last week, before losing to Lorient on Sunday where he scored two goals.
