One of the highest paid international events was held on Saturday Pokémon Go has hosted the Kanto Tour. At an economic cost of $ 11.99, it was a celebration of the 25th anniversary of Pocket Monsters, with the success of the mobile game dating back to the origins of the series for a 12-hour celebration of Pokémon OG 151. Except, they let some people in for free.

Reports seem to indicate (thanks Eurogamer) was first discovered after the 9 a.m. international start time had swept through New Zealand and Australia; it didn’t catch on until the rampant time wave had spread all over the world, leaving many people who had forged a good amount for a single day to play some cheese.

In response, POGO the creators of Niantic have promised an “extra event” not yet detailed for those who paid to play, to try to make up for any harsh feelings.

It was certainly not the only thing that went wrong during the day, but after spending the entire 12 hours playing, I can attest that it was generally a good time.

Other numbers included a rather strenuous period when the game would only allow players to use local attack passes when trying to make remote attacks, which certainly didn’t win me any favors PokeRaid. Plus there was one a lot application delay, with millions of additional people online at once.

However, for the good proportion of the day, there was a program full of chores and challenges to work on, with the final prize of Shiny Ditto’s first appearance waiting at the end. It was accompanied by a frantic collection of collection challenges, in which the 151 Pokémon from the Kanto region were available to catch at different times of the day.

This also featured appearances of brilliant versions of each world of Kanto, including all those that had never been released before, and all are much more likely to be found than usual. Every hour, the list of available Pokémon changed, while raids had appearances of Moltres (trapped bright), Zapdos (trapped bright) and Articuno (sadness off, but there is still time). Oh, and yes, MewTwo too. Ahem. Be patient with me …

BRILLIANT CAPTURE!

Yes, I was playing with my six year old son and that was clear to him.

I’m still dealing with his disappointment at discovering that brilliant Idit it doesn’t, after all, transform into the brilliant versions of the fighting Pokémon. (“But even what’s the point ?! It’s a different color. Ditto!”) Believe me, tell him it’s the same in console games (in the gen 3 bar, they tell me) no it is no consolation. Nor is it being rationalized that it would not be a good mimicry if it were of another color (but rascal in this silly argument, Redditors, because usual Ditto does not mimic the brilliant!).

However, finishing the day’s traps has unlocked something much more exciting: the search for a bright Mew. This is no small thing. The first round of challenges asked us to get 151 big pitches, which we finished with one day. The second has asked us to collect 151 different species of Pokémon, plus 30 of each type of Pokémon. This potentially means more than 540 catches, although significantly reduced by monsters that overlap two types. Oh, and catch Pokémon for 30 days in a row. So this will prevent millers from getting there first (but as always will allow Australians and kiwis to pack it before the rest of the world). I don’t know what stage 3 can entail.

Watch Niantic’s social media for information on what the extra event will be. I really hope it includes another chance to get a brilliant Snorlax, because this mimosa beast escapes me.
