Nick Foles christened the worst case as a quarterback with Bears

For most of a century, the Chicago Bears have dealt with the quarterback’s mediocrity. It has been the reason for offense struggles over the years, and certainly a reason why Chicago’s prospects for 2021 are, at best, bleak.

The Bears aren’t in a quarterback idea situation toward the low season. Nick Foles remains the only quarterback hired in 2021 and Mitchell Trubisky is likely to leave Chicago.

Pro Football Focus examined the scenario of the best case for the Bears quarterback, which includes the writing of Alabama’s Mac Jones. But they also examined the worst case scenario, which is more like what Bears fans expect.

That’s what PFF said about why staying with Foles is the worst case scenario for the Bears in 2021.

If all five major quarterbacks are off the board when Chicago reaches number 20 (a very real possibility), it’s time to push the panic button. This means that nothing is done through trade or free agency, none of which is likely. That would mean the Bears would only stay with Nick Foles and we all know the experiment didn’t work. And if Allen Robinson II signs elsewhere on that same stage, the Bears are destined to throw one of the worst, if not the worst, offenses in the NFL.

Chicago’s bet with Foles, which included negotiating a fourth-round pick and a ton of guaranteed money, didn’t pay off. Foles started out 2-5 as a starter and the offense was unable to produce much on the ground or through the air.

But with Foles saying $ 21 million in guaranteed money, the bears get stuck with him. The only question is: who will join Foles on the list in 2021?

With general manager Ryan Pace and head coach occupational safety Matt Nagy in life support, the Bears should make a good touch on the quarterback this offseason. They will probably get to the draft, but they are in a difficult situation with the eighth overall selection.

It wouldn’t be a surprise for Pace to make another twist with a franchise quarterback, but there’s a chance a developer guy is on the Chicago cards. That would leave the Bears with Foles as a quarterback in 2020, which isn’t exactly ideal given last season’s performance.
