Nick Markakis, the Atlanta Braves camper, is retiring after a 15-year career.
Three-time Gold Glove winner, Markakis holds the record for consecutive games without any errors for an off-field with 398. He was as firm on set as on the field, finishing with 2,388 career hits and a .288 / line. 357 / .423. Markakis played in no less than 104 games each year of his career, with the exception of the reduced 2020 pandemic season.
“I tell myself all the time, whether it’s now or if I was lucky enough to have this opportunity to be a Hall of Fame (for so many hits, 3,000 hits or 2,400 hits, it won’t define the player I was “I think I’ve played the right way and that’s what really matters to me,” Markakis told Athletic.
The 37-year-old was ranked seventh by the Baltimore Orioles in the 2003 draft and spent the first nine years of his career with the Orioles. A native of Georgia, Markakis signed with the Braves before the 2015 season. His only All-Star season came while playing in Atlanta in 2018 at the age of 34.
