After a 15-league major league run that included three gold gloves and more recorded appearances on the right field than all but seven players in game history, former Baltimore Orioles and Atlanta Braves scorer Nick Markakis told Athletic he would officially retire from baseball.
In his typically unobtrusive manner, Markakis, 37, decided shortly after the end of the 2020 postseason with the Braves and therefore the pending free agent did not pursue any game chances this winter, although some teams expressed some interest. He just didn’t tell anyone outside of the nearest ones that he was retiring. Bye now.
“I just think it’s my time,” Markakis said. “My # 1 decision and my main focus on this is obviously my kids and my family. I’ve been lucky enough to do this for a long time and not many people do what I’ve been through. .
