Auburn brought Gus Malhan The era came to an end on Sunday as the Tigers fired their longtime head coach after a 6-4 season. Malhan Auburn went 68-35 to lead the team to the PCS National Championship after the 2013 season, which was his first charge in the plains.
Malhan was known for his innovative offense, especially during his tenure as Auburn’s head coach and as the team’s attack coordinator from 2009 to 2011. The Tigers’ 2013 team is almost impossible to stop at the end of the season, and of course the campaign for the Kick-6 play to beat Alabama will always be remembered.
Auburn has been a decent thorn in Alabama’s side throughout Malhan’s tenure, and the Tigers beat the Crimson Waves last season. Alabama coach Nick Saban Malhan responded to the shooting during a conference call on Sunday.
“I have a lot of respect for Gus,” Saban said. “It’s hard to play against when he was the attack coordinator, he’s always hard to play against as a head coach. Their teams have always played hard, their team has always been well trained on special teams on both sides of the ball. .I do not know the reasons, but I think he’s definitely a great coach and has been a tough opponent to play in the Iron Cup every year. I have a lot of respect for Gus and the work he has done. ”
Earlier in the Saban era in Alabama, the wave carried a ground and pound offense, which is very traditional. But over the past five or six years, Alabama has shifted to the spread, and now presents as many points as any of the nation’s most explosive crime.
If that changed, Sabhan said, Malhan would have actually played a big part in it. When asked if Malhan’s creative offensive plans affected Alabama, Saban said they totally did.

“I don’t think there’s any question about this,” Saban said. “Cousin’s style of play – not only he, you know the whole type of Baylor influence,” Hugh Freese, Based on some of the innovations they have created that kind of people come from the same roots. Tempo crimes, RPOs, really change the game. I think Gus was at the forefront of everything, I guess playing against those guys, if we can not beat them you will almost come to the point where you say, we can join them. That’s why we changed some of the things we do here. “
