Animal Crossing: New Horizons is back at number 1
Animal Crossing: New Horizons reaches its third consecutive No. 1 spot on the UK boxing charts.
The exclusive Nintendo Switch secures its place at the top despite a 24% drop in weekday sales. It’s another week where Switch dominated the boxing game business in the UK, with Mario Kart 8: Deluxe at number 2 (sales 23%), Super Mario 3D World at number 8 (sales 3%), New Super Mario Bros U at number 9 (sales are down 15%) and Ring Fit Adventure at number 10 (37% less). There are 10 Switch games in the top 20 best-selling games.
Ubisoft’s Just Dance 2021 ranks No. 3 despite a 29% drop in sales. This week, 87% of game sales went to Nintendo Switch.
Switch is proving to be the savior of UK retail stores. During the first two weeks of 2021, game sales increased 27.4% compared to the same period last year, and this depends almost entirely on Nintendo Switch games (in general, game sales of Switch increased by 120% to date). PlayStation game sales also increase slightly if we combine PS4 and PS5 game sales.
The only Top Ten game that increased week-to-week sales was the ever-popular Grand Theft Auto 5, which climbs four places to No. 4 due to a 6% increase in sales.
This week there is only one new game on the charts, and it is the first new game to surpass the Top 40 of 2021. Five Nights At Freddy’s: Core Collection makes the number 32, published by Maximum Games. 55% of its sales were on Nintendo Switch, 24% on PS4 and 21% on Xbox One.
