Nintendo seems to be fed up with Bowser and has decided to take some action. No, it’s not about Mario’s archenemy or the current president of Nintendo of America, Doug; we’re talking about Gary Bowser, one of the alleged leaders of the “notorious” piracy group, Team Xecuter.
As you may recall, Bowser, a 51-year-old Canadian, was arrested and charged with 11 felonies last year and now Nintendo is suing him.
According to Polygon, the new lawsuit filed in Seattle alleges that Bowser’s “international pirate ring” operations, which consisted of creating and selling hacks, infringed Nintendo’s copyright. The Nintendo team wants to charge him with two traffic charges and a copyright infringement. Apparently, Bowser has been working on creating and selling piracy devices since “at least” in 2013.
Nintendo’s lawyers say hacking and piracy are “serious, [and] worsening the international problem “and that Bowser’s goods put” at risk “piracy on more than 79 million Switch consoles.
Nintendo is seeking $ 2,500 for each trafficked device, $ 150,000 for each copyright infringement, and wants to end Bowser operations once and for all. You can see the full court documentation here.
