ST. AGOSTÍ, Fla. – After a day of confusion about COVID-19 vaccines that caused long queues at the St. Louis County Department of Health. Johns, Jake Quigley, the business manager of the county health department, told News4Jax that an appointment is not required to receive the vaccine.
Cars began queuing at 5:30 a.m. Friday, hoping to shoot them before the office closed at 3 p.m.
According to Quigley, the phone system for scheduling appointments crashed and there is currently no way to book a place. The department’s website said all appointments were taken this week, but some of the 280 vaccines given Thursday were for people who did not have appointments. Quigley acknowledged that there is confusion and frustration surrounding the distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine department.
There is a massive demand that exceeds the supply of vaccines. Quigley said more than 55,000 people were battling one of the 3,000 vaccines currently available this morning. It is unclear how many vaccines will be given on Friday.
The line in St. Louis County. John grows up trying to get the county’s first 3,000 vaccines. We have learned that you do NOT need an appointment. This after the phone lines crashed. Officials say they have them #Vacuna sitting in the freezer, your goal is to get shots in your arms. @ wjxt4 pic.twitter.com/kspLhKX0UC
