“No plans to close”

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Gov. David Ige on Sunday night dismissed “rumors circulating” about a closure in Hawaii amid a steady rise in COVID infections.

“I want to make it clear that there are currently no plans to close,” Governor David Ige said in a post on Facebook and Twitter. “Not all posts on social media and distribution by other means are true.”

He continued, “Official ads will always come from official channels.”

His statements came on the same day that Hawaii reported 1,678 COVID infections, the result not only of the worsening community spread of the Delta variant, but of a delay in laboratory reports.

Over the past 14 days, the state has seen nearly 11,000 new cases.
