Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal told a meeting that Chandni Chowk used to crack roads, traffic jams and loose cables, but has now become beautiful and aesthetically appealing.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday inaugurated the renovated Chandni Chowk Market and announced new timetables for the food boards for which the street is famous. Speaking at the opening event, Kejriwal said street food boards will be allowed until midnight to try to transform the market into a major resort.
“It has already become an important tourist destination. I knew people come here to wander until 12 in the morning, ”the Delhi chief minister said.
“It will be allowed to open the food boards on the street for another 3-4 hours until 12 in the morning so that people can come here at night and enjoy it. Many food boards on the street will open after the market closes. “, he announced.
Kejriwal told a rally near Fountain Chowk that Chandni Chowk used to crack roads, traffic jams and loose cables, but that it has now become beautiful and aesthetically appealing.
“We beautified a section of almost 1.4 km from Chandni Chowk Market and made it extremely beautiful. The section’s traffic was improved, underground cables were made and CCTV was installed as part of the redevelopment project. “, he said.
The main section between Chandani Chowk and Fort Roig has been improved, including the pedestrian walkways. It has been made aesthetically appealing with the help of red granite stone, decorative lights and plants and street furniture, according to PTI. Motorized vehicles will not be allowed on the stretch between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m., as it has become a “no-traffic” zone.
The project witnessed several delays due to the coronavirus disease pandemic (Covid-19). The redevelopment project was approved in August 2018 and was scheduled to end in March 2020, but, according to PWD officials, the pandemic forced the delay. The deadline was extended to December 2020 and then to April 2021.
