Leading Oscar nominee Nomadland has released its first trailer.
Directed by Chloe Zhao, Frances McDormand played France in “Nomlandland”, a homeless woman traveling across the West in a van looking for work. Bern lost everything in the Great Depression, and seeks the wisdom and hospitality of real-life nomads in the United States The film also stars David Straittern and Peter Spears.
The awards for the “Nomlandland” Oscar have come round. Zhao won the People’s Choice Award at the Toronto International Film Festival and the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival, winning two Best Courses at a Film Festival for the first time.
Zhao became the first female filmmaker to win a prize at home since Sofia Coppola won the Golden Lion hit 2010 with “Somewhere”. Zhao was also the first woman of color to win the trophy after Mira Nair in 2001. The previous three Golden Lion winners – “The Joker”, “Roma” and “The Shape of Water” – all received Oscar nominations for Best Picture, while Guillermo del Toro’s “The Shape of Water” won first prize.
Strengthening its Oscar chances, “Nomlandland” won Best Picture, Best Director and Best Cinematography at the Boston Society of Film Critics Awards on Sunday. It was nominated for Best Actress at the 2021 Gotham Independent Spirit Awards, along with McDormand for Best Actress. She won Best Actress for McDormand at the Academy Awards for “Barco” and “Epping out of three billboards, Missouri” and “Nomlandland”.
Search Engine Films will release “Nomlandland” in theaters in the United States on February 19, 2021.
