NoSavesies: Saving Parking Spaces Begins When Philadelphia Escapes Winter Storm

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) – As Philadelphia continues to dig out of Monday’s winter storm, it will maintain the parking spot that may be the biggest challenge.

Folding chairs and orange construction cones are just some of the items residents will use to reclaim their space.

“Saviesies” is a rule that is not spoken in most neighborhoods, although parking parking in the city is not allowed; it is the law.

George Harvey says he has no trouble moving the cone.

“Oh yeah, I’ll move them. I don’t think that’s right. Everyone digs,” Harvey said.

In South Philadelphia, it’s no secret that parking is the best.

“Parking is usually hard. With snow, it makes it harder,” one resident said.

During inclement weather, residents often resort to their old school.

“I’ve used a cone before. It’s definitely the way to go. I see a lot of people doing it, why not join it?” Said Tommy Dempsey, a South Philly resident.

The city reminds residents that it is forbidden to save parking spaces. Those who dig their vehicles are asked not to throw snow on the street.
