A nurse who withdrew her PPE for having sex with a male coronavirus patient in the hospital bathroom is suspended in Indonesia
- The incident came to light after the patient boasted about it on Twitter
- The two men have been identified by police and admitted to the sexual encounter
- They face up to ten years in prison if convicted under Indonesia’s Pornography Act, which according to advocacy groups is used to target LGBTQ + people in the country.
A nurse in Indonesia has reportedly been suspended after admitting to withdrawing her personal protective equipment for having sex with a coronavirus patient.
The two men were said to have sneaked into a hospital toilet for the appointment, which only came to light after the patient boasted about it on his now private Twitter account on Friday.
He reportedly posted what he said was a rocket screenshot of WhatsApp messages between the couple that included detailed discussions about lubricants and the size of the male genitals.
The man also posted a picture of what appeared to be the nurse’s PPE lying on the floor during the meeting.
“It is true that there has been a suspicious incident of a same-sex relationship between a health worker and a COVID-19 patient at Wisma Atlet Emergency Hospital,” said Asep Gunawan of the National Association of Nurses of Indonesia.
The Indonesian expat reported that both men have been identified and admitted to the sexual encounter.

The hospital was hosting athletes for the 2018 Asian Games, before becoming a hospital during the coronavirus pandemic
The nurse, who tested negative for Covid-19, has been handed over to police for “legal proceedings.” The patient is isolated in the hospital as he remains positive for the virus.
‘This case has been taken to the Jakarta Central Police. We have ensured that the health worker becomes a witness and we have asked for more information, “Lieutenant Colonel Arh Herwin of the Regional Military Command told the New York Post.
“Meanwhile, the patient remains isolated in the athlete’s home,” he added, referring to a former Asian Games athlete accommodation village that was transformed into a coronavirus hospital.
If convicted, men face up to 10 years in prison under Indonesia’s pornography law.
Human Rights Watch has accused Indonesian authorities of deliberately using the law to target LGBTQ + people in the conservative Islamic country.
While homosexuality has never been criminalized in Indonesia, there are also no laws that explicitly protect the rights of LGBTQ + people, making them vulnerable to persecution.
The nurse and patient could be prosecuted under the Pornography Act because of the posts shared on Twitter.
Indonesia has seen an increase in coronavirus cases, which recorded 7,903 new infections on Thursday, for a total of 727,000.
Meanwhile, 251 deaths were recorded on Thursday in the country where 21,703 people have died due to Covid-19 since the pandemic began.
