New York City Police Commissioner Dermot Shea has tested positive for coronavirus.
“She is OK. He is at home. He runs the department remotely. He is in regular contact with senior staff, “a senior law enforcement official told The Post.
The NYPD confirmed the news on Twitter.
Police sources told The Post that Shea had recently been in close contact with people who had later tested positive for the virus. It was then quarantined and tested, the sources added.
The city’s top police officer is the latest from the NYPD to test positive to the pandemic error that has plagued thousands of officers and killed 46 uniformed and civilian law enforcement agencies.
This year, 462 police officers tested positive for the virus, according to police officials.
It was not immediately known if anyone else on the executive staff was in recent contact with the commissioner and had been quarantined.
The news comes two days after New York City’s second attempt to vaccinate more than 70 percent of police officers, which was shut down by the Andrew Cuomo government.
