Justice Department officials reportedly were surprised by these interactions, as Clark had not previously alerted Rosen. The agency’s policy states that the President must first contact the Attorney General or the Deputy Attorney General on any matter related to the DOJ.
According to the Times, former officials said Perry and Clark discussed a plan for the Justice Department to send a letter to Georgia state lawmakers stating that an investigation into election fraud was being prepared that could nullify the results. state elections. The two men discussed the alleged plan with Trump.

Former officials briefed on the matter told the Times that the Justice Department had conducted dozens of investigations into election fraud, none of which led to conclusions that would have altered the election result.
