The Chicago Sun-Times reports that a duty Chicago police officer murdered his son during a domestic incident early Wednesday morning in the southwestern Garfield Ridge area. Citing a source with knowledge of the shooting, the Sun-Times reported that Rafael Flores, 23, was shot dead at 1:50 a.m. in a house in the 5600 block of South Nottingham. Chicago police said he was shot by a homeowner “during a physical argument” and was pronounced dead at the scene. Detectives investigated the shooting as “domestic related”. Local property records show the house belonged to a 19-year-old member of the Chicago Police Department, and one source who is knowledgeable about the shooting said he was the son of a Flores officer. John Katansara, head of the Brotherhood Regiment, a union representing Chicago police officers, visited the home Wednesday morning, but declined to comment on what happened. A Copa spokesman said the police accountability civil office was investigating the shooting. .
