He JJ Watt the draw begins to heat up. ESPN’s Dianna Russini reports that the three-time defensive player of the year “has received contract offers from several teams.” The most lucrative bid is believed to be between $ 15 million and $ 16 million, according to Russini.
A handful of teams have been continuously connected to Watt, including the Cleveland Browns. The ESPN report notes that it is uncertain whether the Browns are one of the teams that have submitted an offer to the veteran step runner. Cleveland is armed with more than $ 30 million in the upper limit and was previously considered a legitimate threat to sign Watt.
The Bills, Packers and Titans have also been classified as possible landing points for the 31-year-olds. Currently, each of these three teams remains over the limit, so they have some financial hurdles to overcome before they can finally sign Watt on a lucrative contract. The Titans have already started with some films that save corks, including their informative widout release Adam Humphries from before today.
One of the teams that Watt apparently won’t land on is the Steelers. Earlier this week, veteran NFL reporter John Clayton said Pittsburgh will not be a landing site for prominent former Texans.
Watt may grow up, but that doesn’t mean he still can’t be productive in the right role. His five sacks in 2020 were the lowest total in a 16-game campaign (but a half-glass mentality would note that a 16-game season is encouraging in itself). In addition, Watt ranked as the overall advocate for the No. 7 Pro Football Focus vanguard in 2020, with the position of advanced metrics praising the veteran’s work against running and passing.
