Ohio grandmother killed by stray bullet before son’s funeral

An Ohio grandmother was hit by a stray bullet and killed while planning her son’s funeral over the weekend, according to a report.

Ruth Lewis, 89, was reunited with relatives at the home of a family member in Warren when she was shot in the back around 7:30 p.m. Sunday, according to WKBN-TV.

She was pronounced dead shortly afterwards. No other injuries were reported.

“It was a senseless death caused by a random bullet,” Warren Mayor Doug Franklin said.

“Viously, obviously, she wasn’t the target, so it’s so unfortunate, but that only speaks to the dangers of having so many weapons in irresponsible hands.”

Witnesses reported hearing at least five to ten shots, including one that saw two cars moving irregularly away from the house.
