COLUMBUS, Ohio: The setback continues, with the Ohio Department of Health reporting 2,742 new cases of COVID-19 to the state, as the metric to eliminate state health orders goes in the wrong direction.
Key metrics
As of Thursday, statewide, Ohio reported 183.7 cases per 100,000 residents over the previous two weeks, the metric used to determine when state health orders will be raised.
“This is not going in the direction we want,” Governor Mike DeWine said at his press conference today, adding, “We can still turn it around if people continue to get vaccinated.”
The following graph shows the progress over time towards the threshold of 50 cases per 100,000 people to be met.

To date, there have been 873,606 confirmed cases of COVID-19, accounting for 85% of all cases.
To date, there have been 103,902 total cases of coronavirus reported in Cuyahoga County.
To date, there have been 18,741 coronavirus-related deaths statewide; no new deaths have been reported today, as the state changes the frequency with which mortality is reported.
Because other states do not send death certificates for Ohioians who die out of state to the ODH Office of Vital Statistics on a regular basis, the mortality data provided by Ohio will continue to fluctuate and these deaths will be assigned to the their proper dates.
To date, 976,611 Ohioians are presumed to have recovered from the disease, according to the ODH.
The mean age of patients is 42 years, with the age range of infected patients ranging from less than one year to 111 years.
Hospitalizations
There are currently 1,193 COVID-19 patients in Ohio hospitals and 282 COVID-19 patients in the ICU.
Currently, according to ODH, non-COVID patients occupy 68% of the state’s hospital beds. COVID-positive patients accounted for 4%, leaving 27% of currently available beds. Patients with COVID account for 6% of state ICU beds, non-COVID patients occupy 65% of ICU beds, and 29% of ICU beds are currently open.
