ANAHEIM, California – Shohei Ohtani fired his 42nd flyer of the year, the best record in the Major Leagues, Jack Mayfield hit the first big slam of his career and the Los Angeles Angels won Monday 8-7 to the Yankees of New York.
Despite Ohtani and Mayfield’s home runs, the batting that made the difference was a single with two outs from Dominican Juan Lagares to Clay Holmes in the eighth inning, which towed Brandon Marsh with the decisive run.
Marsh had started the episode with a single against Dominican Wandy Peralta (4-3), who charged with the win.
The Yankees suffered their third straight loss after a 13-game winning streak.
