Five Oklahoma City police officers were charged Wednesday with murder by the deadly attack of a 15-year-old boy last November.
Officers who responded to reports of an attempted armed robbery at an Oklahoma convenience store shot Stavian Rodriguez on Nov. 23 13 times.
During the meeting outside the store, Rodriguez could be seen in surveillance footage obtained by local media dropping the gun.
He raises his hands and drops them before being shot.
At first, an officer shot and hit Rodriguez with a “less lethal” weapon, police said.
With one hand in his pocket and another in his waist, five other officers “fired unnecessarily[d] lethal rounds against Stavian Rodriguez, hitting him numerous times and causing fatal injuries, “an investigator from the Oklahoma City District Attorney’s Office wrote in an affidavit.
The accused officers are: Bethany Sears, Jared Barton, Corey Adams, John Skuta and Brad Pemberton. They have been on administrative leave since the shooting.
The policeman who fired the “less lethal” round was not charged.
