Entertainers looking for a fun way to start the new decade should not travel beyond the Old Town of Alexandria, next to the Potomac River in Virginia.
Known as the “biggest family-friendly” New Year’s Eve party in the National Capitol region, First Night Alexandria will feature live music and performances, as well as a mega fireworks display.
Youngsters can enjoy the fun of New Year’s Eve while staying warm during the Kids Carnival from 6pm to 9pm in covered venues located in the Old Town areas of Alexandria, Del Ray and the West End.
From 10pm to 1am the next morning, it’s the parents ’turn with a Rockin’ on the River dance party at Waterfront Park on King Street. There is a fee for both events; tickets can be purchased here: firstnightalexandria.org/buy-tickets.
In its 25th year, First Night Alexandria is the perfect place to spend New Year’s Eve. But for those who want to stay out of the hustle and bustle, the Woodrow Wilson Bridge pedestrian walkway is a great observation deck. It can be accessed from the side of the National Harbor in Maryland or the Old Town, via Mount Vernon Road next to Saint Mary’s Cemetery.
