Olimpia won, but did not adjust and Marathón made sure to play the final

Tegucigalpa, Honduras.

Olimpia is with a broken compass and the Marathon presented its candidacy for the title of the 2020/2021 Opening Tournament. The Lion won this Sunday 1-0 at the National Stadium, but the Sampedranos prevailed in the overall score (3-2) in the group final and by becoming the leader of the laps ensured to play the very final.

In the first leg, the Green Monster won 3-1 at Yankel Rosenthal.

DISPUTED

The green team highlighted the absence of a born striker, as Héctor Vargas surprised leaving Bruno Volpi and Ryduan Palermo on the bench, while Marlon ‘Machuca’ Ramírez and Edwin Solani Solano were attentive to the forehead from the initial whistle.

As expected the Lion went on the attack quickly. And he found a well-ordered Sampedrano team and playing with the desperation of the rival.

However, the first goal opportunity was presented to him on the visit. Luis Vega was caught napping as lifted a ball over him following a free kick, but the ball hit the bar, rebounding into the keeper’s arms.

Whites continued to hurt on the sides, and José Mario Pinto appeared to shoot, goalkeeper Denovan Torres bounced back and nearly Jerry Bengtson fired full.

Marathon remained true to his style. And he had better control of the ball with the passing of the minutes, the Lion began to despair and more by the absence of arrivals in the rival area.

At 36, after the arrival of Maylor Núñez and a series of rebounds, central Mathías Techera took the ball out of his area.

At the end of the first half everything improved. Maylor came back up, centered and Pinto hooked before directing, but Denovan Torres stretched full and avoided courtship. Then Selvin the Pibe Guevara almost defeated Edrick Menjívar with a powerful shot that controlled in two times the goalkeeper of León.

SECOND TIME

Olimpia looked different, the path was not clear to the verdolaga defensive order.

Carles Pineda fired a shot from distance after 53 minutes, but the long shot couldn’t find the net for Edwin Solani.

Denovan Torres gave a show in the arc, covered the shots to Alejandro Reis and Yustin Arbreda.

Jerry Bengtson hit the post on the post and Techera took the ball in time when Eddie Hernández arrived at the appointment with the goal.

Already in stoppage time, Reyes executed a free kick, no one touched the ball and went into the net, the 1-0 did not fit the Lion who had to win by two goals from difference to force penalties-three difference notes to win the group final.

After the referee’s whistle Óscar Moncaca there was a scuffle on the pitch, where the players and coaches of each team were involved.

The semifinals will start this Wednesday and if the Marathon wins the league final, it will be crowned champion. Otherwise he will have to play the final with Motagua, Olimpia or Vida.
