But most plays aren’t the only Spotify record that the 17-year-old singer’s bird ballad broke last week. Spotify tweeted on Wednesday, the “Drivers License” set the platform’s record for most plays in one day for a non-festive tune on Jan. 11 and then broke its own record the next day.
The song reached 13,714,177 views on Friday, according to Spotify charts.
The song is also being cleaned up on other streaming platforms. Following its release, the ballad broke the record for “the world’s first major streaming debut of the week” on Amazon Music, Amazon Music tweeted on Thursday. It also destroyed the world record for the most requested tune of all time in a single day on Alexa, the company said.
It is currently the most played song on Apple Music worldwide since Sunday, according to Apple.
Rodrigo began playing the piano at age 7, according to his biography on the Interscope Records website. He learned to play the guitar shortly after participating in the Disney series “Bizaardvark,” which ran from 2016 to 2019.
Rodrigo currently stars in Disney + ‘s “High School Musical: The Musical – The Series” and wrote a song for the fourth episode of the show, according to the site. The song, titled “All I Want,” is certified gold and has been aired more than 200 million times, according to Interscope.
