Officials, opinion leaders and well-known faces of the national future seek to be the presidential aspirants of their respective political parties.
Of the 14 political institutes enrolled in the National Electoral Council (CNE), three elect their representatives tomorrow for next November’s election process.

Some of the pre-candidates are running in the primary elections for the second time, such as Yani Rosenthal Hidalgo, who lost in 2012 against Maurici Villeda Bermúdez. Meanwhile, Luis Zelaya is once again looking to be the representative of the Liberal Party after being the candidate in the 2017 general elections.
For the Freedom and Refoundation Party (free), Xiomara Castro participates for the second time in the primary elections. In 2013, the former First Lady (2006-2009) became the first presidential candidate of the political party and also in the second Honduran to aspire to the Executive.

Castro again won the candidacy of her party in 2017, but formed the Opposition Alliance against the Dictatorship (or Free-Pine Alliance), led by Salvador Nasralla and in which she accompanied as presidential nominee.
Àngel Darío Banegas, Liberal MP for Cortés, aspires for the first time to be the Liberal Party candidate. Like the mayor of the capital Nasry Asfura and the president of the National Congress, Mauricio Oliva Herrera, for the National Party.
For his part, Carlos Eduardo Reina, from a liberal family for generations, aims to be the president of Lliure after joining this political party “by conviction”.
Also in his first attempt at the candidacy of Free is Wilfredo Méndez, that in the primary elections of 2017 looked for to be the aspiring to the mayorship of Central District.

In the opinion of Omar Rivera, executive secretary of the National Convergence Forum (Fonac), “internal and primary elections must be an exemplary democratic exercise, a successful prelude that precedes the general elections of the last Sunday in November 2021 and that guarantees absolute respect for the popular will expressed at the polls in search of ‘strengthen the institutionalization of the Honduran state.’
The civil society leader motivated “the Honduran population to participate in this electoral process according to their partisan preferences and to support the candidates for popularly elected positions of their predilection.”
He also considered that the massive participation of Hondurans in these internal and primary elections of political parties strengthens the democratic system “and is a first step for the November 2021 election fair to be successful.”
Pre-candidates interviewed by THE PRESS they motivated the citizenry to exercise their vote to achieve real change.
